On June 20, 2025, Hilma’s Ghost was honored to lead a Summer Solstice Ritual at the Olana State Historic Site in Hudson, NY. Led by Hilma’s Ghost co-founder Dannielle Tegeder and creatd in collaboration with artist Ellen Harvey's mirrored installation Winter in the Summer House. Created for the exhibition What’s Missing?, the installation reimagines Frederic Church’s lost summer house as a radiant structure composed of gold-framed mirrors etched with hand-drawn images of melting glaciers, transforming the site into a meditative space for ecological reflection and collective intention.
The Solstice ritual invited participants to walk together during the golden hour, to gather in the mirrored space and engage in a series of reflective, symbolic actions rooted in feminist, ecological, and spiritual practices. As the sun began its slow descent, we offered intentions for personal and planetary transformation, honoring the balance of light and shadow on the longest day of the year. The ritual was designed as a space of collective dreaming - one that acknowledged grief, summoned hope, and embraced both mystical and material change.
Hilma’s Ghost, founded by Dannielle Tegeder and Sharmistha Ray in 2020, continues to explore the intersections of feminist thought, spiritual traditions, and alternative pedagogies through rituals, workshops, and installations. This solstice offering was part of our ongoing effort to create spaces for embodied reflection, aesthetic experimentation, and collective healing.
We are deeply grateful to Ellen Harvey, Carolyn Keogh, The Olana Partnership, and all who joined us in welcoming the solstice with presence and care.
